Hiking
The Kennebec Highlands makes up 6,000 acres of protected land and contains the highest peaks in Kennebec County. There are a variety of hiking trails catering to all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. Shopping
A visit to our area should always include a trip to the charming village of Belgrade Lakes. Walking or driving down Main Street gives you a terrific scenic view of Long Pond on one side and Great Pond on the other. There are several shops to purchase food, drinks, souvenirs, local art and handmade goods. More info on Belgrade Lakes businesses can be found here.
Farmer's Market
The Belgrade Lakes Market is open Sundays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm from June to September. Here you can purchase fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs, cheeses, honey, maple syrup, breads, baked goods, coffee, flowers, crafts and more!
Day's Store
Day's Store is a generationally owned family business where you can find almost anything. This charming country store can be accessed by car, foot or boat. Check out Lakeside Scoops behind the Store on the waterfront. Follow them on Facebook for events like movie night on the waterfront!
Golf
Belgrade Lakes Golf Club has been voted the number 1 course in Maine and is one of the top 100 public courses in the country. It features a lovely 18 hole course with amazing views of Long Pond and Great Pond. Psst...even if you don't golf, go check out the view! A 2 mile ride from the camp.
Other things to do
There are many small towns and villages to explore if you're interested in taking a drive through beautiful rural Maine. You'll find antique shops, cafes, markets and even an exotic wildlife sanctuary that is worth a trip. Ask your Castle Island Camp Hosts, John or Rhonda Rice, for more information.
